Ray King, a 25-year-old from the Bronx, plays the drums in Manhattan’s Union Square subway station on Saturday afternoon. On the platform for the No. 6 uptown train, King drew a crowd of 20 people as he played fast drums on construction buckets and an MTA trash can. Many observers dropped coins and bills in his tip hat. King learned to play the drums as a child in his church. He said he has played in the subways almost every weekend for the past seven years. He also plays with two percussion bands.
